Lakes

Lac de Montbel

Set in beautiful countryside, Lac de Montbel is the largest inland watersports lake in the southwest of France, covering an area of over 1500 acres. Activities include swimming, fishing, walking and numerous water sports. It is also a beautiful spot to just relax and enjoy the views.

It can be accessed from Léran and Montbel.  The Léran side is perfect for families and has a large beach area, where the water is safe for swimming. The surrounding woodlands provide plenty of shade and picnic areas. Within the woods is a Appy Parc Accrobranche that includes zip wires and climbing activities for all ages.

The La Regate restaurant overlooks the lake and provides a good selection of food, drinks, and ice cream in a relaxed setting.

From the Montbel side, the beach allows you to enjoy a superb view of the hills bordering the lake. There is also a children’s play area which includes a variety of bouncy castles that will keep the children happy. Cold drinks and lunch are also available from the adjoining cafe.

For the more energetic, this side is also a good place to set off on a walk. It is possible to walk right round the lake, but it takes about four hours and is about 16 kilometres. You can easily walk round without a map but for more information on a walking tour of the lake click here.

Lac Puivert

Puivert is a much smaller lake but is in a beautiful setting with a view of the old Cathar castle opposite the large, sandy beach which is ideal for swimming. It has a large, grassy area to relax and picnic. There is also a café for snacks and drinks.

Every Wednesday during July and August, either under the Halle or at the lakeside, you can enjoy the night markets where you can buy excellent hot and cold food and drinks, local artisan products and listen to the live music
